Hunter Douglas Sheer Shades: Pirouette® vs. Luminette®

B2End • October 23, 2023

Hunter Douglas window coverings earn high ratings for innovation and quality. Still, we have to be honest: There are so many choices that finding the ideal solution for your decor can be challenging. That’s why we prefer to break them into categories for our clients. From there, we compare different products to find the ideal balance of form and function. Once you select what you want, we craft custom window treatments to your specifications, with an elegant result you will enjoy for years.

Hunter Douglas Pirouette® Sheer Shade near Sarasota, Florida (FL)

One of the groupings for Hunter Douglas products is sheer shades, including Pirouette® and Luminette®. Here is what you should know about both of these options.

Hunter Douglas Pirouette® Sheer Shades: Graceful, Versatile, Horizontal

Hunter Douglas Pirouette® Sheer Shades can increase the sophistication of your home and allow you to diffuse sunlight throughout a space. With soft, horizontal fabric vanes that move gently between two sheer panels, you can tilt the vanes to different angles to allow diffused natural light or remain closed for more privacy.

Pirouette® Shades have 4” or 5” vane sizes and high-end, luxurious fabrics. Besides light control and privacy, they also have UV protection to prevent your flooring and furnishings from fading. You can control Pirouette® Shades with the UltraGlide® retractable wand or enhance them with PowerView® Automation. Other upgrades include Alustra® exclusive fabrics and ClearView® sheers. You can customize Pirouette® Sheer Shades to fit 12” to 144” wide and 15” to 144” high windows.

Hunter Douglas Luminette® Sheer Shades: Sophisticated, Vertical Illumination

The main difference between Pirouette® and Luminette® is simple: The first is a horizontal window covering, while the second is vertical. Luminette® also combines soft blinds and sheers and is ideal for large windows and doors. The rotating fabric vanes within the sheers offer 180 degrees of light control, and the overall appearance resembles fine, sheer drapery.

Luminette® Sheer Shades have 3½” vanes with gorgeous, UV-protective fabrics that you can choose from the Alustra® collection. PowerView® Automation is also available if you want more control over your window treatments. We suggest Luminette® for French doors, patio and sliding-glass doors, and single doors that are 8” to 192” wide and 24” to 120” high. One other thing: The Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) chose Luminette® Privacy Sheers as its 2022 Product of the Year based on outstanding design and innovation.

Pirouette® and Luminette® Have a Few Things in Common

Pirouette® and Luminette® come in a wide array of textures, colors, and fabrics, allowing you to choose the style and color that fits your space perfectly. Both products offer UV protection and options for enhancement with the finest materials and motorization. Plus, every Hunter Douglas window treatment we sell has a Lifetime Limited Warranty.

So, how do you decide between Pirouette® and Luminette® sheer shades? Pirouette® can accommodate a broader range of window sizes and shapes, like angles, arches, bay windows, and even hexagons. It also works on patio, sliding glass, and French doors. Luminette® vertical shades are well-suited for doors and large windows.
